As many of you know, last week I was in AZ. The trip was part pleasure, I got to hike & sightsee with my best friend in the beginning of the week, and at the end of the week, I attended a Beautycounter leadership conference that I earned.

A bit about Beautycounter

Beautcounter is a clean beauty company that is paving the way for increased FDA oversight over personal care products so as consumers we can be confident knowing the products on the shelves are safe for us (right now we cannot be, the FDA has no oversight).

I’m not saying this to induce fear, the reality is a lot of ingredients in Personal Care products have data that shows they are endocrine disruptors, affect reproduction or are carcinogenic. Some ingredients are also too new and don’t have the data available yet to inform whether or not they are safe.

I found Beautycounter searching out safe sunscreens and fell in love with their products, and their mission. Through my involvement in the company I have visited Senator and House Representative offices and have pushed for them to pass the Personal Care Products Safety Act. I’ve enjoyed taking part in our democracy and found it lit a fire in me.

Be Fearless. Success Creates Success. A Beautycounter Conference Learning.

But, I digress. What I’m really here to write about today is about mindset and becoming a better leader. I was fortunate enough at this leadership conference to listen to Khalid Halim, and Executive Coach at Reboot.io speak to us about leadership. He was so inspiring.

The biggest takeaways that I want to share with you today, that I think could light a fire under you, and inspire you to be the best you can be are:

  1. Turn in and be honest with yourself. Stop comparing your insides with everyone else’s outsides.
  2. Be bigger than you’ve ever been before. Challenge Yourself.
  3. Be curious. Investigate, read learn.
  4. Be open. Listen to what others have to say.
  5. What got you here, won’t get you there.
  6. Leadership is who you are every day. You are a leader. It is in you.
  7. We are social and emotional learners. Companies are made of people. People buy because of other people.
  8. The greatest gift you can give is your own well being.
  9. Be present. At work, focus on work. At home, focus on family.
  10. You know your truth. Live it every day. There will be peaks and pits but overcome them.

If there is one overall thing you can take away from this: be FEARLESS.

Don’t let fear get in the way of your vision.

I’m going to work on getting up an hour earlier to have some “me time” in my day and work on making phone calls instead of constantly putting them off.
